This haul is long overdue! A few weeks ago I splurged in Makeup Revolution. I felt it was worthwhile to share my purchases as it was super cheap and good value for money. I would say this is more of a review actually as I have now used the products for a number of weeks and can give you my detailed thoughts.
I don’t know how Makeup Revolution manage to keep costs down and be able to supply such good products because the colours are super pigmented and long lasting. This is a great brand to start off your makeup collection with if your just getting into makeup. The brand has been around for a little over a year now and launched in April 2014. They are doing very well, selling all over the globe.
I purchased the following:
- Ultra 32 Shade palette ‘AFFIRMATION’
- Awesome Metals Eye Foils ‘Rose Gold’
- Ultra Blush and Contour Palette – ‘Hot Spice’
- I <3 Makeup Lipstick ‘Irregular Heartbeat’
- Contour Brush
- Eyeshadow Blending Brush
- Powder Brush
- Makeup Geek Palette – FREE
The brushes were actually for my friend, so unfortunately I was unable to photograph or review them.
I already own a few items from this range which I really like and was excited to try more. I will begin with the AFFIRMATION palette which I just love. I don’t know why I’m typing it in capital letters, it just feels right! To make a statement so to speak. This palette has all of my favourite everyday colours in it and since I have owned it, I am picking it up frequently to use. I usually change it up between my Too Faced Chocolate Palette, Urban Decay Naked 3, and now this. The palette contains lots of neutrals and shimmers and a very good variety of cut crease colours. I find them all to be wearable and for £8 this palette is amazingly good value for money. The colours are so pigmented and last all day. In the past when I have used cheaper brands, the eyeshadows were not long lasting and this one is. For that reason, I am tempted to buy another palette! Makeup Revolution packaging is simple yet effective. It fits nicely into my acrylic drawers too – and storage is an issue for me at the moment. All of the palettes are slim, compact, fitted with a mirror so great to use on the go.
You can see the shades are mostly shimmer (which I am obsessing over) but it also contains mattes. The picture above is taken from Makeup Revolution’s official website. There was too many colours for me to swatch for you all (sorry guys) but these have been lightly swatched. 2 layers in my opinion gives you the perfect coverage on the eyelid. There are some great cut crease colours too and although the pay off is soft, I have actually found that if I apply my NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk all over the lids first – it really makes the colours pop on the shimmer shades. Now I know this is a beauty hack anyway, but I think the consistency of these shadows works really well with the NYX Jumbo Pencil. If you want to intensify your colour (especially with the shimmer shades) then add 2 layers of shadow over the white eyelid and blend blend blend honey! I am shimmer biased (clearly) and will admit the top 2 rows are my favourite.
Metals Eye Foils ‘Rose Gold’
Obsessed with the colour, but I initially found this difficult to apply. It is similar to Stila Magnificent Metals Eyeshdow ‘Comex Gold’ but why pay £33 when you can get it for £4 from Makeup Revolution at a fraction of the price! The application is tricky as you need to mix the glue and glitter together in a tray and then apply. I tried the method and hardly got any colour on my lids! Having said that, I did use a brush, before realising that it’s actually easier to just apply with my fingers. I’m so glad I bought this and not Stila’s version. I came so close on many occasions and just couldn’t justify the price tag. So the eyeshadow can be applied dry, but the best intense results are reached by applying it with the clear liquid primer that it comes with. There is a small mixing dish too, but I discovered it was easier to just use the back of my hand and then use my fingers to apply. By using your fingers, gives the most flawless finish (SO tempted to try this as a highlighter!) I don’t feel that one layer is enough. I would build up colour with 2-3 layers. I have heard many people say that Makeup Revolution’s version is much more pigmented than Stila’s. Now that I have the hang of this, I do quite like it.
The swatch above is taken from Makeup Revolution’s own blog as my swatches were coming out really lumpy – if you own this, you will know what I mean. It takes a few tries to get it right and by the time I started to get a good swatch it was too dark. Typical!
Ultra Blush and Contour Palette ‘Hot Spice’
This palette was made for me! Priced at only £6 (!) the colours are so wearable and so me. Dare I say they have currently replaced my Mac blushers. In love with everything about this palette. The colours are peachy and natural. Perfect to wear everyday and you get 8 full size plans of product and they are highly pigmented. The first time I used this, I applied far too much thinking the colours would not be intense. I was so wrong! A little goes a long way with the blushers. The texture is so smooth and soft and applies to the skin nicely. Just to intensify the colour a little more, I spray a little MAC Fix Plus onto my face first to give me that dewy look.. You don’t have to follow this step, but I like to, because I like the colour looks on my skin with a little Fix Plus. The colour selection is great – mattes and satins and they can all be mixed together. I actually already own the Sugar and Spice palette and was so impressed with that, which is why I got this one too.
I <3 Makeup Irregular Heartbeat Lipstick
I am a Peach Queen – I love the colour, I think it compliments my skin tone well, so I had to get this at only £1. The real reason I purchased this is because I was literally £1 away from free shipping and needed another item to qualify for it, so I picked the cheapest! I chose a colour I would actually wear rather than buy a lipstick for the sake of it. It’s pretty good actually! It’s only £1 so I really didn’t expect much from it if I’m honest. I don’t love the texture, but once it’s on, I can live with it. I’m not going to complain because it was super cheap, but all things considering the aesthetics of this lipstick are quite cute!
There is a cute emblem in the centre of the lipstick as below and the only downside is that a few times after using it, the lipstick got stuck mid way. I managed to fix it, but I wouldn’t have been overly upset. Now if it was one of my MAC lipsticks… That’s a different story!
Makeup Geek Palette
This came free with my order! Makeup Revolution had an offer on at the time – a free Makeup Geek palette with each purchase. Look at the colours though!
So much intensity! I did not expect that. They are very vibrant. I have to admit, I haven’t used this palette yet purely because I don’t wear colours like this on a daily basis. I do think this is a great palette to create some fun looks with. I will post some funky looks with this soon 😉
If you do love the colours you can purchase the Makeup Geek Palette directly from Makeup Revolution for ONLY £7.99!
Everything is great value in this range. I suggest you buy at least one palette!
