It’s time for another Kylie Cosmetics review! This time I am talking glosses. I am not really a gloss person, and when I heard Kylie was releasing this new finish I had already said there was no way I was getting any. The first load of orders started to get delivered to people and the reviews were coming out thick and fast ‘This isn’t your typical gloss’, ‘It feels so good on’. Oh here we go again… It’s like the lip kit hype all over. Except the lip kit hype WAS worth it. So what are the chances these glosses are going to rock too? 200% right? Well read on…
So you all know about the checkout drama that surrounds these products. Same scenario again guys. I was on the site well ahead of launch time, managed to get everything in my basket. Got to checkout and after waiting 10 minutes to check out, the glosses and my back up lip kits I wanted to purchase were out of stock. Just great. I gave up, I’m not going to lie. I had just had enough! I was ready to cry at this point having waited so long.
I headed over to Kylie Cosmetics Official Instagram page who was telling us all that there was still one shade of gloss available. I managed to get hold of ‘Like’. I wanted all three, but at this point, I just took what I could *cries*
My friend had ordered 3 of the glosses when Kylie first ever launched them and as she only wanted to take them on holiday with her, she’s let me have her ‘So Cute’ as that particular shade was not suited to her. Thank you Tori!! <3
I am one short from my gloss collection – but after testing out these glosses. I can live with one missing.
What You Get
These glosses are packed differently to the lip kits. They do not come with a lip liner, but you can use your existing lip liners from the lip kits to fill your lips and then apply the gloss over.
The glosses just come as they are packed individually. On the website, you do have the option to buy the glosses as a set of three.
These are smooth, silky and highly pigmented. It DOES feel like your wearing gloss and the texture was very sticky and tacky for me.
The formula on these glosses is thick and creamy. It feels more like a sticky lip cream more than anything and I am glad she has bought out wearable shades to debut. These colours can be worn all the time.
My only qualm is that the first batch of glosses that came out have a longer applicator and the hairs on the brush frays which doesn’t give you great application. The gloss I purchased myself was suppose to be the new batch with a better applicator on them – much shorter and no loss of product. You would think that being the second restock the applicator would be okay right? No wrong! My order had the OLD applicator and I was not happy. There is a reason I purchased ‘Like’ from the second restock. I did not want a faulty applicator! Kylie Cosmetics did not live up to their promise.
Look at how frayed my applicators are 🙁 You can cut the frayed parts, but you lose product. I also find the application on my lips to be very sloppy due to the fraying.
The annoying thing is that when Kylie brings out a product, it is best not to buy the first batch straight away, because 99% of the time she will make changes to ‘improve’ her product. So the item you buy from the second or third restock will always be better due to the changes she’s made. She always states that she is looking for ways to improve which is fine, but don’t promise us a better applicator on the second restock when it clearly is not.
My swatches are sloppy because the applicator is – GRRRR.
Here are some pictures of me wearing the glosses. As you can see from this picture, I am not impressed:
Don’t rush out to buy these – they are not worth the hype like the liquid lipsticks were. You can find plenty of dupes for these and I had to keep re-applying my glosses after every hour or so. I would also like to add, my hair stuck all over lips every time I wore these. The glosses were a big disappointment for me.
Remember in my review of Kylie Lip Kits I received a dodgy Kourt K? Well I emailed them and this is what Customer Services had to say:
Pffttttt! I don’t think so.. It’s a faulty formula! I have been wearing liquid lipsticks long enough to know when a formula is not right. If anything girls, stay away from the darker shades of Kylie Cosmetics because I don’t find the consistency to be as good and there is a rumour going round that she has changed her formula too! If your a Kylie newbie, I would advise Candy K and Koko K to be your first purchases.
To find out more about the next Kylie restocks, keep an eye out on the Kylie App and of course Social Media.
The link to purchase the glosses is right here.
Until next time makeup lovers! <3
