Bonjour Makeup Lovers,
I apologise in advance about the negative post.
I felt it was my duty to tell you of the current on going issue with Becca’s Champagne Collection Eye Palette with Jaclyn Hill. If you follow Jaclyn on Snapchat (JaclynRhill) you will know there have been some mixed feelings about the eye palette she bought out with Becca.
Now according to Jaclyn Hill, she was only involved with the making of one colour (Champagne Toast) in the palette. She mentions on snapchat she was too busy to commit to a full eye collection.
It just seems to me like there has been a sudden rush to get this palette out and corners have been cut. Up until now, I have never owned any Becca eyeshadows, but people have been saying the formula is not the same creamy consistency as their other palettes.
I have nothing to compare it to because as I said, I have never owned a Becca eyeshadow before. I loved the colours in the palette and I did think they felt like butter, I still stand by that. However, every time I have worn this palette, I have really had to pack the colour on and had to work extra hard to blend my crease. The second time I used it, I ended up mixing my Makeup Geek eyeshadows with it for a better finish. My blog post on the collection was a first impressions review as I had only just got it that night and wanted to swatch it for you girls.
I then also discovered that this palette was made in China. While I have no problem with that as I do own and use makeup manufactured there – I do have an issue with high price points and a lot of social media hype. Becca is a luxury brand who I expected better from and if you compare the formula of the face palette to the eye palette it is different.
You can see the third colour in (Cordial) looks quite chalky in this picture.
The quality has been compromised.
What Happens Now?
Becca will not be bringing back the eye palette – it has been discontinued. If you were lucky enough to buy it and have no issue with it, cherish it and enjoy it because it won’t be coming back again. If like me you are unhappy with it, Sephora are offering a full refund. However word on Twitter is that you need to go in store to return it. That isn’t possible for me because I live in the UK. I have emailed Sephora to ask them what they intend to do about this because I am sure as hell not paying to have it shipped back to the States. I have already paid an extortionate amount in shipping and taxes!
I am talking about this issue more on my snapchat (makeup_musings) so be sure to follow me.
You would think that Jaclyn Hill would have quality controlled checked this to the fullest since it has her name on it? I agree with how she is going about pulling this from the line. I think it’s great, and BECCA too. But why put your name on something that isn’t up to scratch? She repeatedly tells us she is not being shady, and whilst I believe her, there is a small part of that thinks she would have known this was not up to Becca standard. Shame on Becca for cutting corners.
It’s like the Kylie Lip Gloss fiasco all over again.
It’s been a bad week in the world of beauty. First there was the thousands of breakages of Jeffree Star Cosmetics highlighters (they were so finely milled and delicate they broke) to Beauty Bay stocking the Violet Voss Palette for half the price I paid for it! Cocktail Cosmetics told us Violet Voss were cutting their ties with any UK supplier and then BOOM! Beauty Bay come in and undercut Cocktail Cosmetics. There has been quite a lot of uproar this week.
I tweeted Sephora directly:
They then replied with:
Shortly after that I received the following DM on Twitter:
When I queried the refund on the tax, I received this response:
All in all, after hounding them on Twitter, I was refunded straight away. If you have the eye palette and your not too happy with it, then I suggest you tweet them direct! When I emailed their customer service team, this is the reply I got:
As you can see, their customer service team were not very helpful. Even though, in my original email I had stated I was in the UK.
Space NK in the UK have cancelled and refunded everyone who pre-ordered the eye palette as these will not be going on general sale.
To be honest, this has all left a sour taste for me and I will think twice before buying a product hyped up by social media. Don’t get me wrong, I own pieces from other collections which I have not been disappointed with, but it just seems recently products are not living up to expectations and this is the fault of social media. I would advise anyone wanting to buy an exclusive collection to do their homework first. That being said, there have been many wonderful collections out.
The only collection I really want next is the new Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit when it comes to the UK and maybe the Renaissance Palette. Beauty Bay will be stocking both 15th June.
How did you feel about this eye palette? Did you notice it was any different?
