Everyone pretty much owns this iconic foundation – except me until recently! I have been converted to using this and when I say it doesn’t budge, boy it does not budge. This foundation is known for being long wearing and and smudge proof and I couldn’t wait to put it to the test.
My non blogger friends rave about this so much and they were in shock when I told them I had never tried Estee Lauder Double Wear. I’ve been using this for a few months now and I am pleased to report that it does in fact live up to it’s claims.
The first thing I pretty much noticed was that after 12 hours wear, my makeup had not budged. It stayed in place. In fact, it didn’t smudge either and I’m so surprised with the heatwave we’ve had this Summer! I tested this out in a few different ways – with primer, without, with makeup setting spray and without. This was the best way for me to fully test this before giving you my thoughts. My primer of choice is always MAC Strobe Cream, I cannot live without this! The setting spray I opted to use for this test is the Pixi Makeup Fixing Mist. This a winning combination for me during the Summer and these products worked well with my Double Wear.
The shade I chose was Dawn, and although it might seem like this is too dark for me, it is in fact, a good match on my skin. Once it settles in, it looks great. I have also been mixing this with other foundations to add that full coverage finish, and Double Wear performed well for me then too. Prior to ordering this foundation online, I went in-store and obtained some samples as I wasn’t entirely sure on what to opt for. Dawn was the best fit for me. In the end, I ordered the foundation online at Debenhams as they had 15% off at the time.
There’s a huge shade range which caters for so many different skin tones, and the packaging is on the top end of the scale – luxury. The gold top and glass bottle look so elegant, and my only qualm is that there is no pump dispenser on my bottle. Although I hear, since i ordered, this has changed and they do now offer this.
I only need the smallest amount to cover my face and this small layer provides full coverage. I use a MAC foundation brush to apply this with and then blend it all out with a Beauty Blender. The formula is quite thick and it dries quickly, but it’s not difficult to blend. It leaves me with flawless coverage. It does state that this provides medium to full coverage, it I would class this more as a full coverage foundation. It’s perfect for my oily skin and I’m pleased to tell you, it’s become a staple for me.
I did couple this up with the Double Wear concealer to match, which my friend Ant recommended to me. I have purposely chosen the lightest shade because I like to highlight my under eye and it’s a really nice combination!
I really don’t find this too much for daily wear – I’m not sure if that’s because I am so use to wearing a full face everyday – ha!
Here’s how the foundation looked on me after 13 hours of wear – I tried to take this in as many different (natural) evening lights as possible to show you the texture on my skin:
It retails at £33.50 at Debenhams, but you can more often than not, find this on offer with around 10-15% off on numerous sites.
So, there we have it! My much detailed review of Double Wear. What are your thoughts? Have you tried it before?
